What it's About

Bullying and harassment can take many different shapes and forms. Under the anti-discrimination law, it is against the law to treat anyone unfairly or harass them because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, marital status, family or carer’s responsibilities, pregnancy, religion, political opinion, national extraction, or social origin. HOW TO COMPLY WITH THE LAW As an employer, if an employee behaves in a discriminatory or harassing way, you are legally responsible unless you can prove you took all reasonable steps to prevent the discrimination or harassment from happening. However, bullying and harassment (including sexual harassment) can often be subtle and discrimination can sometimes be unintentional. That is why it is important your team of employees understand the differences between bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, and discrimination, and how to ensure these behaviours don’t occur. One of the best ways to prevent bullying, harassment, and discrimination in the workplace is to provide training for all employees and ensure your company has a robust policy.
